Is Pest Management an Essential Service?

In many regards YES! Think public health pests, quarantine requirements, food safety and the like.

NO OFFICIAL GOVERNMENT DETERMINATION THAT DECLARES PEST MANAGEMENT AN ESSENTIAL INDUSTRY

As at 24/03/2020

On 22 March 2020 the AEPMA wrote to state premiers seeking clarification, as yet no official response has been forthcoming.

We have spoken with most state based licensing and health departments and have sought to be included in any updates around this topic.

This may ultimately vary state by state if there isn’t a determination at a federal level and in the event of a total lock down.

As it stands Stage 1, Stage 2 restrictions / lock downs do not prevent us from working.

Not All Pest Management Services are Essential, right?

Let’s consider this for a moment! If our industry was considered an essential service – this would be a very broad determination!
Surely food safety, public health pests etc would be included but should we be treating a silverfish problem or messing around with general pest / spider treatments in the event of a total lock down except essential works.

I think as an industry we need to be ethical! If we’re given the right to offer ESSENTIAL services at any stage in this pandemic…. that is ALL WE SHOULD DO! Let’s show the community how professional we really are!
